Racing driver and Paralympic champion
Alex Zanardi's story was one of the most remarkable in sports history. After a successful career in Formula One and CART racing, he lost both legs in a horrific crash at the Lausitzring in 2001. Rather than retire, he took up handcycling and went on to win four Paralympic gold medals and numerous world championships. His courage and determination made him an inspiration worldwide. He suffered a serious handbike accident in 2020 and never fully recovered.
