Jesse Jackson was one of the most prominent civil rights leaders in American history, marching alongside Martin Luther King Jr. before becoming the first major-party African American presidential candidate in 1984 and 1988. He founded the Rainbow/PUSH coalition and spent decades advocating for racial equality, economic justice, and voter registration. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2017.
