George Ariyoshi

George Ariyoshi made history in 1974 as the first Asian American to be elected governor of a U.S. state, serving Hawaii for three terms until 1986. The son of Japanese immigrants, he grew up during World War II and went on to break racial barriers in American politics at a time when Asian Americans held almost no political power.
